John Tyler Soccer Player Nets College Scholarship

It's signing day for a soccer player from John Tyler high school. Lady Lions forward Sonya Gomez signed a college scholarship today in the JT library. After a successfull high school career, she decided to take her game down Highway 69 to Lon Morris College, where she'll play the next two seasons. Sonya talked today about why she chose Lon Morris.

"Since it's a smaller school, I think I'll learn more," said Gomez.  "I really like to play soccer.  See if I can get started there, see if I can look forward into another university after the two years."

Despite the fact she's only been playing organized soccer for around three years, her coach says she's a team player and a coaches dream, working to be the best no matter what the position. Don't be surprised to see her in a UT-Tyler uniform in two years, if she has anything to say about it.
