In just a few days, patients from Truman W. Smith Hospital will go home. The Gladewater hospital should be ready by this Saturday.
The facility was damaged by fire this past December. All of it's patients, who suffer mental and physical disabilities, were evacuated to other East Texas hospitals.
Workers say the patients, mostly children, are thrilled to be coming home.
"I know a couple of families that have brought their kids up here. From the reports I get from the parents, the moment they step foot in the building, they almost came out of their wheelchairs because they were so excited to see the building again," says administrator Ken Williams.
The blaze was started by an attic fan.
Williams says they still need volunteers to help with last minute painting.
