LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An arrest has been made by Longview police after a body was found at a motel Friday night.

Longview Police were dispatched to the American Dream Inn on East Marshall Avenue just before 6 p.m. Friday night, where they discovered a dead body inside of a room at the motel.

A witness described the gruesome sight to police, saying he entered the room with the hotel owner and saw the body of a man covered in blood.

"We found a body inside of one of the rooms of the motel. And at that point, we began to investigate it and determined it was a homicide," said Longview Police Officer Kristie Brian.

At least one witness says he saw a man running away from the scene with blood on him.

"I see the guy walking with blood all over his shirt. Yeah, and he was bleeding on the right side of his face too," said witness Juan Hernandez.

That piece of information was key for police.

"[We] talked to people, were able to determine who the suspect was. Definitely helps us out, we had several people who were able to give us bits and pieces, and we were able to put it all together," said Brian.

Investigators were able to secure enough evidence for a warrant for 51-year-old Gary Murphy. He was arrested for murder several hours later without incident.

The victim was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Tim Bryan and an autopsy has been ordered.

"We've talked to the suspect and at this point, we're just waiting on the autopsy report now to confirm what we already have suspicion of," Brian said.

Although there has been an arrest, police say they don't yet know a motive in the case, so the investigation continues.

Bryan tells us Murphy has been arraigned and is being held on $250,000 bond. The name of the victim has not been released.
