Major Gas Leak Fixed After Nearly 24 Hours

A major gas leak in Smith County has now been fixed.

It happened yesterday morning on Highway 155 at the intersection of Mockingbird Hill, also known as County Road 159.

Atmos Energy crews have worked around the clock for nearly 24 hours to repair the rupture. According to the Fire Marshal's office, it was the county's biggest gas leak in the last 15 years. A contractor ruptured an underground pipeline while clearing land in the area.

About a dozen homes were temporarily evacuated Tuesday. No one was injured.
