A Longview animal shelter is making a desperate plea to the public. The shelter is so overcrowded with dogs and cats, officials there say there is an urgent need for people to adopt them. The humane society of Gregg county is continuing to hold dogs and cats two-to-a-pen. In some cases puppies are being held three-to-a-pen.
This just a month after the shelter was cleared out because of a distemper outbreak. Although workers say some adoptions have taken place, they still need many others to come forward with good homes. Workers say the shelter averages 700 to a thousand stray and abandoned animals turned into them per month.
