DA's Office To Review Allegations Of A Teacher Hitting A Student

Allegations of a teacher hitting a student have been turned over to the Smith County district attorney.

The Arp City Marshal's office says the incident happened two weeks ago at Arp Elementary School. Officials said the mother of a 5-year-old boy is claiming she saw the teacher hit her son.

"We had a parent come in and complain that a teacher had slapped her child on the shoulder," said Arp City Marshal Scott McAuley. "We looked at the child, we interviewed the parent, we interviewed the teacher and this is where we are now."

Marshal McAuley says the teacher was never arrested or charged. He said he wanted more information on the child's injuries before making an arrest. The district attorney could take the case before a grand jury.
