ETMC Athens announces the addition of pain management services, with the addition of board certified pain management specialist Asha Kancharla, M.D., to its medical staff.
Dr. Kancharla is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in anesthesiology, and also holds a subspecialty certification by the ABA in interventional pain management. She served in the fellowship program in pain management at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She is in medical practice with Pain Management Associates of East Texas, P.A.
Many patients experience pain as a result of accidents, medical conditions or perhaps after surgery, she explained. “While approximately 60 percent of my patients have back and neck pain, I also see many patients who experience joint pain, headache, nerve pain, muscle pain, cancer pain, spasticity and post-lung surgery chest pain.
“Most chronic pain patients experience depression because the quality of their lives is affected by their pain,” she said. Dr. Kancharla primarily treats chronic pain patients through the use of injections which are performed as outpatient procedures at ETMC Athens. She also maintains a clinic practice, and uses prescription medications as a secondary approach. Other types of pain management treatment now available at ETMC Athens, through Dr. Kancharla’s care, include spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps.
