Police Release Racial Profiling Report In Longview

In Longview, traffic stops and arrests of African Americans are down from the previous year. That's according to a racial profiling report released by the Longview Chief of Police.

However, the report also shows blacks were arrested twice as often as whites in Longview. Addressing city council Thursday night, Longview police Chief J.B. McCaleb says the department is committed to ending any racial profiling.

"Let me state that any practice of racial profiling is not acceptable and will not be tolerated by this department. In fact, the department has had a policy banning this type of conduct for over ten years. This is a very important issue and the Longview police department wants to make sure we continue to take all necessary steps toward compliance," said McCaleb.

Longview is one of the few Texas cities that has the services of a criminology expert to provide the annual report to city council.
