City Concerns Over Rising Gas Prices

Natural gas prices in Tyler are on the rise and the city is concerned.  City officials say some customers of CenterPoint Energy have seen their bills double or even triple over the past few months.

Tyler City Attorney Gary Landers says the city believes CenterPoint Energy is overcharging its customers.  "The city of Tyler believes that the company, while they are just passing through the cost of gas that they bought, the city thinks that maybe they could have found gas at a lower price," Landers said.

The city has taken its fight to the railroad commission, disputing the cost of gas CenterPoint Energy has charged its customers over a 10 year period.  The city is asking that center point refund millions of dollars to its Tyler customers. An answer could come by April.
