Union Hill ISD Cancels Classes Due To Flu Outbreak

Classes are cancelled. Union Hill ISD is forced to call off classes after an outbreak of the flu.
The 1-A school district is located in Upshur County just north of Gilmer.
Of the districts 340 students, 40 were out sick Thursday morning. The number continued to grow as more students went home through out the day.
Eleven faculty and staff members were also out with the flu.  Officials say a major drop in attendance last Friday points to when the outbreak first began. The superintendent says a lack of "back ups" made the decision to cancel classes easy.
"The substitutes that we have on our list they are sick also and we are having difficulty getting bus drivers," said Union Hill ISD Superintendent Sharon Richardson.
While the Union Hill schools are closed, crews will strip down the interior of the campuses and disinfect them.
Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday.
