Preparations For 2005 Azalea Belles

In about a month, the famous Azalea Trails will be bringing thousands of tourists to East Texas. And to greet them in authentic antebellum costume, 24 young ladies, who got a special treat today. Make-up artists from Foley's Department store gave all the girls free makeovers today, including tips to help match hairstyles and makeup to their period costumes.

Over the four week run, the girls will put in more than 35 hours of standing on their feet. Former Belles say it's a tiring, but rewarding experience.

"Your feet kind of get used to it. It's really tiring the first few weekends, but I met people from Japan and China. I even met some person from Brazil. They come from all over the world," says Colleen Goodwin, a former Azalea Belle.

Your first chance to see the Belles and their make-overs is at the opening ceremony. It starts March 18th at 10am at the home of the Pyron's. That's at 212 West Dobbs, behind the Women's Building on Broadway.

Of course, you can see the young ladies all dolled up at various homes throughout the event. The trails will be open through April 10th.
