Suspected Burglary Leads To High-Speed Chase

A high-speed chase this afternoon began when a Smith County resident spotted a suspicious man coming out of his neighbor's house, then hiding in the backyard.

He called 911, and nearby deputies and police officers pursued the man in his truck.

The chase took them from the county all the way to Tyler's Azalea District. A sheriff's deputy hit the suspect's truck and forced him off the road. The suspect then fled on foot.

Gordy Jermaine, 28, was arrested behind a home on Dodge Street and charged with two counts of evading officers, plus 17 traffic violations.

Jermaine's girlfriend and friend, the owner of the truck Jermaine was driving, arrived at the scene shortly after his arrest. Detectives say Jermaine was on his cell phone, perhaps talking to the two.

According to the Sheriff's Department, no one was hurt in the chase. Detectives are still investigating the reported burglary.
