Voters Approve Rollback Of TJC Tax

The ballots have been counted and East Texans have made their point clear, no higher taxes for Tyler Junior College.

After months of debate it came down to a simple choice.  Residents in the TJC district would decide by special election to keep the tax rate set back in August, or to roll it back to it's previous rate.

Tonight by a vote of six to one, voters decided to keep it at the lower rate.  That means means those that live in the TJC district will pay 12.23 cents per $100 valuation in taxes.

Vote totals:

For- 9,902   87%
Against- 1,535   13%

The news means everyone who has paid their tax this year, will see a refund.  That refund is expected to be processed within 60 days.

If you have any questions about that tax refund you can call either the Smith County or Van Zandt tax offices.
