Proud of East Texas: Jimmy Drew

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Jimmy Drew was a popular high school senior at Winnsboro High School when his hot rod collided with a rock wall on the way home from partying with friends.

Jimmy's injuries were extensive. He was classified as a complete quadriplegic, although the spinal cord wasn't completely severed. He was in a coma for eight weeks. Doctors told Jimmy's mother that if he survived, he would remain in a vegetative state.

But Jimmy fooled them all. There was no brain damage and he enrolled at Kilgore College, where he was elected honorary captain of the football team and went on to get his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Texas A&M Commerce.

Then, tragedy struck a second time. Jimmy overshot a curb and hit a tree.

After his second near-death experience, he knew it was time to share his testimony. After leaving the hospital, Jimmy began speaking to schools, churches and business groups, and has now shared his story in a book- "The Midnight Hour, an Amazing Journey from Paralysis."

Jimmy says that with God's help, he knows he can face anything.
