District Report Cards

The state report card is in and East Texas schools are making the grade.
The Texas Education Agency released its report on overall academic performance by school district for the 2003-2004 school year.
The agency looks at a number of factors to make its decision, including student academic performance, attendance and graduation rates, and performance on TAKS examinations.

Tyler ISD is listed as academically acceptable. No schools in the district were unacceptable.

Austin Elementary School: Gold Performance for Attendance. Commended on Reading/ELA, Math, Writing

Bell Elementary School: Exemplary, Commended on Reading/ELA, Math Writing and Science

Birdwell Elementary School: Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended on Writing

Bonner Elementary School: Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended on Reading/ELA, Math

Caldwell Elementary School: Exemplary, Commended on Reading/ELA, Math, Writing and Science

Clarkston Elementary School: Recognized, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended on Writing and Science

Hubbard Middle School: Recognized, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commedend on Writing

Jones Elementary School: Gold Performance for Attendance

Moore Middle School: Gold Performance for Attendance

Owens Elementary School: Recognized, Commended on Reading, Writing and Science

Ramey Elementary School: Recognized, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended on Reading/ELA

Rice Elementary School: Recognized, Commended on Writing and Science

Stewart Middle School: Gold Performance for Attendance

Woods Elementary School: Recognized, Commended on Writing and Science

Longview ISD was also academically acceptable. No campus was unacceptable.

Foster Middle School: Gold Performance for Attendance

Hudson Middle School: Exemplary, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended for Reading/ELA, Math, Writing and Science

Johnston Elementary School: Recognized, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended for Writing and Science

Valley View Elementary School: Recognized, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended for Reading/ELA

Ware Elementary School: Recognized, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended for Reading/ELA


Kilgore ISD, also academically acceptable. No schools were unacceptable.

Chandler Elementary School: Recognized

Jacksonville ISD also academically acceptable. No school was unacceptable.

East Side Elementary School: Exemplary, Gold Performance Acknowledgement-Commended for Reading/ELA and Math

Jacksonville High School: Recommended High School Program (Class of 2003)

    East Texas firefighters come to the rescue of angel tree kids. Big Sandy firefighters held two fund-raisers over the past week to help their local Angel Tree network. They collected enough donations to buy toys for 28 kids through the local group 'Agape House Ministries Angel Tree' coordinators.
