East Texas farmers markets set for 2015

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

Farmer's markets in East Texas are a big, important deal. We love our farmers and we can't get enough of their homegrown tomatoes, corn, greens, squash, berries, and every other thing they will sell us. Here are some places across East Texas where you can get your hands on that delicious bounty this spring and summer:

Sulphur Springs:

Seasonal open-air market featuring locally-grown produce on the Downtown Square park in Sulphur Springs. Open Saturdays from 6-10 p.m. May through October. 125 Davis Street. (903)439-1189

Athens

This is a year-round open-air market featuring fresh veggies, fruits, breads, and homemade crafted items. 212 N. Palestine Street. Saturday 8am -noon May through October.  903-944-8516

Kilgore:

This is a seasonal open air market that includes everything from fresh locally-grown produce to arts and crafts. World's Richest Acre Park market in downtown Kilgore. Saturdays 7am-noon May-October.  903-988-4117

Longview:

This is a seasonal enclosed market known for local farmers and produce, now offering live music, crafts, and everything from organic fertilizers to goat milk soap. Maude Cobb Center at the Longview fairgrounds. Mondays, Wednesdays and fridays 7am-noon beginning in June. 903

Winnsboro:

This seasonal open air producer-only market offers locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as yogurt, cheese, goat milk fudge, canned items, eggs, grass fed beef, pastured organic pork, pastured chicken, handcrafted soaps, gourmet bakery items, fruit breads, plants, herbs, jams and jellies, and wine. They are located on Market Street between Hwy 11/Broadway and Elm Street Downtown. Saturdays, 8am-noon, April-October. 903-629-7471

Nacogdoches:

Year round open-air market offering homemade and homegrown items. Baked goods, organic beef, candles, artisan cheeses, free range eggs, chicken, tilapia, flowers, jewelry and more. 107 W. Pearl street in historic downtown Nac. Saturdays 8am-noon year round. Wednesdays 2-6 p.m. April - October. 903-559-2507

Marshall:

Seasonal open-air market featuring fresh produce, Wellington Street, one block south of the Harrison County Courthouse and town square in Marshall. Tues,Thurs, and Saturday 7am-sellout, May through August. 903-935-8413

Angelina County:

Year-round covered open-air market, offering Texas and local produce. Off the corner of 69 (Huntington Hwy) and loop 287 in Lufkin.  Monday through Friday, 9am-5:30pm. Saturdays, 9-4. 936-634-6655

Tyler:

East Texas State Fair Farmers Market - Locally-grown produce, pastured eggs and handmade goods. 100% farmer-owned and operated. Opens May 2. Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7am-1pm, 2112 W. Front Street behind the Rose Garden. 

Tyler Farmers Market - This market is located at 4850 Old Bullard Road in the Broadway Square Mall parking lot on the Sears end of the mall. Due to weather, opening day has been moved to May 16. Grand opening is June 6, and last day is August 29. Tues, Thurs and Sat. 7am-2pm.

Rose City Farmers Market: Truly local market located in the Juls parking lot on Old Jacksonville Highway. Saturday mornings (currently open) through November. Live music, lots of vendors, activities for kids.

Mineola:

Vegetables, fruits, baked goods, jams, jellies, eggs. Located on Front Street in the Pavilion west of the AmTrak Depot. Saturdays 7:30am-noon beginning May 2. 903-569-6983

Lindale:

Local vegetables, fruits, crafts, dairy. Located in the Pickers Pavilion, 205 North St. E in downtown Lindale. Opened in April. Hours are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7am-1pm. 903-882-3422

Jefferson

Produce, eggs, meats, homemade goods, and crafts raised or produced within a 50 mile radius of Jefferson. Saturdays 8am-noon beginning on May 2. Hwy 59 next to Dairy Queen. 

Henderson

Vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs locally grown in Rusk County. Market will open on Saturday, May 30. Saturdays 7am-sold out, and Tuesdays 1pm until sold out. In Fair Park on Fairpark Drive. 903-863-5691

Palestine:

The Palestine Farmers Market operates seven days a week, from 8am-5pm. Number of farmers selling there varies from day to day. Launching May 2 and going through October. Located at 815 W. Spring Street, next to the visitors center.
