Cherokee County Chief Appraiser Arrested

Cherokee County's chief appraiser has been arrested on charges of burglary and animal cruelty.

Officials say Jeffery Lee Flowers was arrested last Friday in Tyler for allegedly castrating his dog. They say Flowers had adopted a dog from the Humane Society of Smith County and signed an agreement to have the dog neutered by a veterinarian. But an investigation found he apparently did the job himself, an act of mutilation considered animal cruelty. Flowers was taken into custody where authorities found that he also had an outstanding felony warrant for burglary of a habitation in Tyler.

Flowers has bonded out of the Smith County Jail on both charges.
