Ore City Teen Signs Recording Contract

An East Texas teen has broken into the music world, signing a country music recording deal. Thirteen year old Cheyane Smith has been signed to a 5 year Nashville singing contract.

"I don't think I ever thought I'd get this far, I mean everybody dreams, I guess I'm just a lucky one and it came true," Cheyane says.

She won the East Texas idol competition, and was spotted by music producers, which lead to a recording deal with Circuit Rider Records of Nashville. All this is a lot to absorb, especially when you're still an Ore City 7th grader.

"I don't know how I got this far, it just happened I guess," Smith says.

However, Cheyane's success comes as no surprise to her mother. She knows it happened because of her daughter's phenomenal singing voice.

"She was 4-years-old when she started getting up in church and would want to sing, she would go up, it didn't matter how many people were up there, she just loved to sing," says mother Vickie Smith.

But life has changed, Cheyane is already trying to juggle the obligations of singing and appearances with going to school.

"Unlike most 13-year-olds, yes I'm always needed somewhere, I'm always on the road. I'll probably be home schooled then, I'm going to miss public school, I'll miss all my friends," says Cheyane.

Smith will travel to Nashville in March to begin recording her first album.
