Early Voting In TJC Tax Rollback Election Begins

Smith and Van Zandt County voters began casting early ballots Thursday in Tyler Junior College's tax rollback election. TJC trustees adopted a four cent tax increase in August, however a group protesting the tax hike gathered enough signatures to force the election.

The ballot asks whether voters are for or against reducing the tax rate in TJC's district from 16 cents to a little under 13 cents.

You can vote in this election if you are a registered voter and live within the following independent school district lines: Tyler, Lindale, Chapel Hill, Winona, Grand Saline and Van ISD's.

Early voting runs from January 21st through February 1st, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. During early voting you can cast your vote at the Smith County Annex or TJC's Health and Physical Education Center.

The general election day is February 5th at polling places throughout the district.
