SFA's Underwood off to historic start

As a junior college head coach, and a division one assistant, Brad Underwood waited 25 years before he was hired as a division one head coach.

"It's partially me trying to find the right opportunity, the right job," said Underwood.  "I didn't want the title just to be a head coach. I knew at some point it would happen and it just had to be the right place."

The wait was well worth it for the 51 year old. With a record of 59 and 7, Underwood is the winningest coach in his first two years, in NCAA division one history.

"I didn't go in to it trying set records or make history," said the Southland Conference Coach of the Year.  "I went in to it trying to win every basketball game."

"He's so determined in everything he does," said SFA senior Jacob Parker.  "He's just a great coach."

Winning 89 percent of their games past the past two years, including the first NCAA tournament win in program history, Underwood has turned SFA into mid major power. Underwood dreams big.

"He (Underwood) expects perfection," said Southland Conference Player of the Year Thomas Walkup.  "When he doesn't get it, we're striving for it."

"We're not settling for second when first is available," said Underwood.  "We're going to do everything in our power to try and achieve that."
