TJC men's and women's basketball teams reach Region 14 final

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - TJC was scheduled to play Navarro College in the Region 14 semifinals on Friday night.  However, a clerical omission was discovered Friday from an NJCAA spring eligibility form.  A Navarro College player had been omitted from a certification form, thus ruling him ineligible. Navarro College was forced to forfeit all of their conference wins from the spring season.

Navarro College had defeated Coastal Bend Thursday night.  However Coastal Bend had already left Jacksonville, and players were already headed home for spring break.  The circumstances gave TJC a free pass to Saturday night's Region 14 championship game.

The TJC women defeated Bossier Parish Friday afternoon, advancing to the championship game as well.  The Apache Ladies will face reigning national champion Trinity Valley.

"It's just an awesome thing for us to both be playing," said TJC women's coach Trenia Jones.  "The blessing of this is they took the tournament out of Tyler. Everyone wanted us to not have home court advantage, and taking away the home court advantage all the sudden gave us a home court advantage because we played like we were at home."

The women will play Saturday at 5:30 p.m.  The men will play at 8 p.m.
