Chamber Of Commerce Congratulates Red Raiders

The Tyler Chamber of Commerce today formally congratulated the Robert E. Lee football team for its history-making state championship win.

The board chairman, Jeff Austin III, read a resolution to Head Coach Mike Owens and two Red Raider players. He then presented them with a plaque and praised the Raiders for bringing recognition to the city of Tyler.

"Tyler's pretty well-known anyway in athletic circles," Owens said. "They refer to us and John Tyler as the 'beast from the East,' so we don't mind that kind of recognition."

It was the first time in Robert E. Lee's 46-year history to win the state 5-A Division I championship.
