Power of Prayer: Breckenridge Village Presents A Night to Remember

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - For almost 20 years, Breckenridge Village of Tyler has provided a place for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, learn and grow. But what you may not know, is they like to have a little fun too!

The excitement is building at Breckenridge Village in Tyler. Residents and staff are getting ready for "A Night to Remember: Doo Wop at the Soda Shoppe." Linda Taylor, Director of Development, Breckenridge Village said, "We've got the GTOs coming from McGregor, Casey Rivers, the Shake Rattle n Roll, November Roberts, The C, the residents, it's just going to be a great time."

The event is a fundraiser, with all of the proceeds going to both residents and visitors to the day programs. Clay is a resident at Breckenridge Village. He told me, "We're going to be having some entertainment, some drinks and enjoy ourselves." Anne, another resident said they will be, "doing the dancing." When I asked what song, she replied, "You are My Special Angel.'"

The team at Breckenridge Village is building a bar where popcorn and old-school sodas will be served. Keeping the theme alive along with residents poodle skirts and cardigans. Clay said, "they're going to be having some rock n' roll and country. I think I'm going to do the cha cha cha."

So there's going to be something for everyone, kind of like the place they call home. "Breckenridge Village is a faith-based community and so that gives them an opportunity to have their needs met spiritually, emotionally, socially, in every way. I think that's a key thing, having that spiritual component," Taylor said. And none of it would be possible without the power of prayer. "Oh. Without prayer and without God, Breckenridge Village wouldn't be here. That's how important God is and prayer is to our every day."

So they're inviting you to take part in what he's doing to keep their hopes and dreams alive. Taylor says, "It's just a really great opportunity for them to shine and we want them to shine. We love, respect and admire them and we want the community to know that."

"A Night to Remember: Doo Wop at the Soda Shoppe" is this Friday, February 27th at KE Bushman's Celebration Center in Bullard at 7:00 p.m.
