She spent her career tracking down hot check writers in Smith County.  Friday, she said goodbye.

Debbie Van Deman spent the last 22 years working for the county.  Friday, about 30 people gathered at the courthouse to wish her a fond farewell.

The last 20 years of her career there, she was the administrator of the "Hot Check Division".  It was her job to catch those who passed off bogus checks and to try and get money back for victims.  She said through it all, she never forgot what her job was all about.

"Just mostly helping people that was my goal, just you know, finding a way to resovle issues for people that were victims, it was always about victims for me," said Van Deman.

Debbie plans to split her retirement between some part-time work with a local private investigator and substitute teaching at an elementary school.
