Suspect Sought In Mount Pleasant Assaults

Life has changed for those in a quiet peaceful neighborhood in Mount Pleasant after a string of attacks on older women. Three women have been attacked, police believe, all by the same person. Two of the victims were sexually assaulted. All the attacks happened in November and December near a federal housing development, bordered by 4 streets north Jefferson, Arkansas, Lide and Ferguson.

The women ranged in age from 50 to 80. Area resident Nancy Holcomb is worried about just going outside, and for the first time in her life she's carrying pepper spray to protect herself.

"It makes me more cautious, i always before i get out of my car look all around to make sure everything is as it should be not anything out of the ordinary and i have this ready to use when i get out of my car" says Holcomb.

This after 3 attacks in one Mount Pleasant neighborhood, the latest on Christmas eve. But police say physical and forensic evidence may soon lead to the arrest of one suspect they believe to be a local man.

"We've sent the evidence that we've collected at the scenes to the crime lab in the Dallas area and we're currently awaiting results of what we've sent in" says Mount Pleasant police chief J.C. Burch.

Until an arrest is made, people who live in the area, live in guarded fear.

"It has made our people that are normally very content to walk the streets and to visit their neighbors, leary of doing that , they don't know who's going to be walking up to their door," says resident Carla Sherman.

The suspect in the attacks is described as a black male in his mid 20s with a medium build. He's 5-seven to 5-nine. And he's described wearing a hooded sweatshirt or toboggan. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Mount Pleasant police department. Bob Hallmark reporting.
