Gridlock On Broadway After Gas Line Leak

Just before 5:00 p.m., one of the construction crews on Broadway ran over a gas line with a bulldozer. Police say the crew from Longview Road and Bridge called in the rupture. Once police arrived, the South and North bound lanes from Grande Boulevard to Barbee were shut down. That caused gridlock for miles.

"We've been out here for probably 20 or 30 minutes, just since Rice," said one driver.

"Probably about 30 or 40 minutes," said another.

Drivers were forced to detour using Old Jacksonville or Copeland Road, causing even more headaches for drivers trying to get home.

"Oh, I am going to go crazy. I feel frustrated and people are driving crazy. Someone just cut in front of me and almost caused a wreck," said another driver.

With everyone jockeying for a position to get moving, there were some wrecks.

Around 6:15 p.m.,  the southbound lanes opened up, easing traffic a bit, giving some annoyed drivers a little relief.
