Pine Dunes Hires First PGA Pro

Pine Dunes Resort and Golf Club in Frankston has been considered one of the best golf courses in the country ever since it opened in 2001. Golf Digest rates it a best value in America. Dallas Morning News ranks it in the top 20 courses in the state. Now, Pine Dunes has it's first head golf pro. John Sikes was selected to lead the resort course into a new era. Sikes is a former teaching pro at Mansfield National in Mansfield, and Director of Golf at Bear Ridge in Waco. He's been a professional golfer for 14 years and a PGA teaching pro for 11.

"I'm filled with a lot of pride to be here," said Sikes. "Pine Dunes is a great place. We've got a great superintendent, Chris Edmondson does a wonderful job out there. I really like the idea of what they had in mind out here from the start. It was all about the golf course, and it still is. I appreciate that as a pro. But, the service aspect of Pine Dunes wasn't up to the standard of the golf course, and that's why I was hired, to bring up the service part and the training of the staff to get them to the level of our golf course. If I can do that, we're going to be a great place."

Sikes, who calls Corsicana home, says his goals for the future include increasing rounds of golf played, expanding the lodging for "stay and play" golfers and upgrading facilities.
