Signing day excitement also brings pressure

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - East Texans Patrick Mahomes and K.D. Cannon are the latest examples of making the most of their first year in college. But as signing day approaches, up and coming stars say the recruiting process isn't all peaches and roses.

"Its very tough and stressful," said Gilmer senior Kris Boyd. "It seemed easy for a little bit but then you really have to think about it and go through all the things to make the right decision. Its tough on you."

"It's all about business really," said John Tyler senior Issac Warren.  "Some coaches as I say will sell dreams to you. You have to do a lot of thinking and a lot of soul searching."

That's a lot to ask of 17 and 18 year old kids. The players admit some growing up is necessary.

"You have to be a man about everything," said John Tyler quarterback Geo McCollister.  "You have to be a man about your decision. Its been a humbling experience, but its also helped me to mature and become a young man."

Signing a national letter of intent is a life changing moment and with that comes pressure to make the right decision.

A division one program is not always the right fit. Issac Warren had offers from Purdue and SMU but has decided to attend Northwestern State.

"At first I really got caught up in the hype and everything," said Warren. "But whenever you come down to it, it's where you feel most at home and comfortable."

Some guys are destined to play big time ball though. All eyes will be on Gilmer star defensive back Kris Boyd Friday as the 4-star recruit is set to decide between Texas A&M and Texas.

"It's a great feeling," said Boyd. "I'm sure every kid grew up and had that dream. To actually live it is a pretty good feeling."

So for every decision and stroke of the pen next Wednesday, know that is just one little part in a huge life changing process.
