Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award will be presented Wednesday night

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Earl Campbell is still larger than life in college football.

"We've heard multiple times from the finalist (for the Tyler Rose Award), that they were excited to meet Earl," said Holli Conley of the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Campbell will be back home Wednesday night to award the second winner of the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty was the inaugural winner in 2014.  Petty is one of 5 finalist for the 2015 award, however the Baylor quarterback will not be able to attend Wednesday night. There will still be plenty of star power as Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine, Ohio State quarterback back JT Barrett and TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin will all be in attendance.  Boise State running back Jay Ajayi will miss the ceremony.

"We have some really big names coming to Tyler," said Conley. "We had some last year and we have some this year. It's really great. Everyone in the community is excited."

Preparing for the event is no easy task. The Tyler Chamber and Sport Tyler have spent months organizing planning for the ceremony.

"We start working on it the day after the banquet," said Conley.  "We have to get together a voting committee, nominations for players, watch the games and then get the players here."

Putting on a first class ceremony, that lives up to the Tyler Rose himself.  The ceremony will be held at Willow Brook Country Club for the second straight year.

"We're hoping this award will put Tyler on the map in a big way."
