Dogs Rescued From Longview Shelter

A group of East Texans have come forward to try to save nearly a dozen dogs. This, after several adopted from the Gregg County Humane Society over the last month had been diagnosed with distemper, a highly contagious canine illness that's almost always fatal.

Earlier this week, Humane Society employees said they would euthanize most of the animals, because there's no other way to prevent the disease from spreading.

This morning, members of the Longview non-profit group, Pick of the Litter, were able to take 11 dogs into their care. The group will foster the dogs and try to find them good homes. Sadly the remaining animals, about 20 dogs, will be euthanized tomorrow morning. The Humane Society will be closed.
