Two Tyler restaurants make the health department's naughty list

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Roaches, unclean surfaces and boxes of raw bacon are just a few things that got two restaurants in trouble this week with the Smith County Health Department.

Hygienic violations were noted among employees at Jake's Tyler at 111 East Erwin. Employees were seen handling ready-to-eat foods. Inspectors say they found dead roaches behind the hand sink and grill station. Food contact surfaces were also found to not be cleaned. Total demerits: 17

Hygienic violations were also observed among employees at the Diner at 7924 South Broadway #1000. Inspectors say they saw employees handling ready-to-eat foods. Boxes of raw bacon were found to be stored above tortilla wraps. Cutting boards and utensils were found not clean. Total demerits: 18
