Mineola excited for 'great opportunity'

MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - Thursday morning the Mineola Yellowjackets head to Arlington for the 3A-I state championship game. Mineola will face two time defending state champion Cameron Yoe.

"They don't scare us," said Mineola defensive end Dylan Hargrove.  "The teams we've beat the last two or three weeks, people said they'd beat us. It hasn't stopped us yet."

The Yellowjackets embrace being the underdog.

"We're looking at this as a great opportunity for us," said Mineola head coach Joe Drennon.  "What a win it would be if we go win this one this week against these guys. Somebody is going to beat them sooner or later. I sure hope it's Mineola."

"We can hang with them (Cameron Yoe)," said Mineola defensive tackle Drason Tenner.  "They're a good team and we're a good team. It's going to be a good game."

Mineola is new to the state championship stage.  But with a 12 game winning streak, the Jackets have proven they are among the best in the state.

"We've been down, been on top, been tied," said Drennon.  "We've kind of done it all this year. There's no type of ball game we haven't played. This week's going to be a real challenge for us. We're going to have to play really good football this week. Our kids know it going in, they're confident, they believe in themselves, they believe in each other and they believe we can win."
