Dom Dwyer returns to TJC as MLS star

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Growing up playing soccer in England, Dom Dwyer wasn't expecting soccer stardom in the United States.

"I underestimated Major League Soccer when I first came into it. Even coming to America, I underestimated junior college. It was all a fun learning curve and I'm just riding the wave.

Since helping lead TJC to two national championships, Dwyer has become one the top goal scorers in MLS.  An all star with Sporting KC, Dwyer has proven you can make it big after playing junior college soccer.  Dwyer visited TJC on Wednesday for the first time since winning the 2010 national championship.

"Coming from here is humbling and nice," said Dwyer.  "Coming back here brings back good memories and stuff where you started. It's just a nice place to be."

TJC men's soccer coach Steve Clements says Dwyer never forgot about Tyler.

"For him to come back here and for the guys to spend time with someone like that that they see on television all the time and somebody they hear about and to get to spend time with him," said Clements.  "I think he had a great experience here."

Dwyer hopes his success serves as motivation to current Apache soccer players.

"I'm exactly where they were four years ago," said Dwyer.  "It's nice for them to see that anything is possible."
