Hundreds Tour HGTV Dream Home

From California to New York, and several states in between, people dreaming of winning came to Tyler to see their prize.

"Oh, it's beautiful, and to be right here on the lake, and it's got everything in it that you would need," Rebecca Vance, from Troup, said. "We might win this house."

Profits from the tours benefit four non-profit organizations: Habitat for Humanity, the East Texas Crisis Center, CASA, and Living Alternatives. For $15, anyone can tour the 2005 HGTV Dream Home: more than 5,000 square feet of Texas style worth over $1 million.

The house seems fit for any family.

"It's fixed for a retirement home that you could, easy maintenance," Dwayne Payne, from Sam Rayburn, said. "Not much upkeep to it."

"We have four grandchildren and two children and their spouses," Jeanne Rewerts, from Hastings, Nebraska, said. "So I'm sure they'd want to move in with us."

Seeing the Dream Home in person gives the hopefuls a better idea of how home would actually feel.

"Absolutely awesome," Rewerts said. "Very beautiful home. Very livable home. It's not just a show house. It would be something you could move in and love."

Most of the tourists plan to enter the online sweepstakes obsessively.

"It's probably, you know, just one in a million, I'm sure," Vance said. "But there's no harm in registering everyday."

"Everybody come on down, but don't register," Rewerts said.

She's set on winning the home, and so are all the others.
