Henderson ready for No. 1 Navasota

HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - The Henderson Lions enjoy being the underdog.  That's why Saturday's showdown with No. 1 Navasota is no big deal.  The Lions weren't even picked to make the playoffs.  Now the District 9-4A-I champions get a shot at the top team in Class 4A.

"We are looking forward to it," said quarterback Zane Boles.  "We've had a chip on our shoulder. People have underestimated us and we just like showing what we can do."

Henderson is coming off a 60-43 win over Jasper.  The Lions know they'll need another big number on Saturday.  At 13-0, Navasota averages more than 61 points per game.

"We're just now hitting our stride at the perfect time and coming in hot," said Henderson offensive lineman Trevor Still.  "Navasota will have a tough defense as always. They're a tough team but I think the way we're rolling, why not just run over them."

Henderson and Navasota will meet Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lufkin's Abe Martin Stadium.

Fall camp is a critical for every high school football program in East Texas, but when you only have one returning starter on offense, preseason practices become a little important. Featured on Monday night's Red Zone rundown, Henderson has a lot of talent to replace and knows capturing a third double-digit win season since 2014 won't be easy.
