Carthage I.S.D. Lawsuit Settled

A lawsuit against an East Texas school district involving the disturbing case of a bus driver who sexually abused children, has been settled. Last year, five women filed suit against Carthage I.S.D., saying they were sexually abused by a school bus driver over a 10-year period. They said the district did not do enough to protect them from their abuser.

The women have now settled for undisclosed damages, according to a Tyler federal judge. Their attacker, 66 year old Hooper Harris, now a convicted child molester, had worked for the district for a number of years. He pleaded guilty to nine counts of indecency with a child. He is currently serving concurrent 20 year sentences.
