Gorman one win from state championship game

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Bishop TK Gorman Crusaders are thankful to still be on the practice field.

"It's fun working on Thanksgiving," said Gorman offensive lineman Hunter Sattler.  "Normally I'd be going into wrestling so I'd have to cut weight. Thank goodness I can eat on Thanksgiving."

An appetite for good food and a state championship.  The Crusaders have reached the TAPPS Division II state semifinals for the first time.

"It's a great feeling," said Gorman quarterback Michael Goodwin.  "Especially since we haven't won state at Gorman since 1995. But we take everything in stride one week at time, one day at a time."

The Crusaders have posted the their first 10 win season 2 decades. Success that was hard to predict just two years ago, when the Crusaders won just 2 games.

"I mean who would have thought Gorman?" said Sattler.  "We knew though. During two a days we knew we could do it. Two years ago we were 2-8, the next year 5-5 and now we're 10-2. It's been a turn around, a blessing all year. No matter what happens we can thank God for that. If we get a state ring that would be great."

The Crusaders play Dallas Christian Saturday night in Corsicana.

Stephen f. Austin head football coach Clint Conque paid a visit to the Rose City this afternoon. It's perfect timing to pump up the program, considering the Jacks are coming off a dramatic last second win over Incarnate Word. Put on by the alumni association, Conque was the featured speaker at a Lumberjack networking event. Coach Conque got to brag a little about SFA's first victory of the year. Not to mention that despite a rough non-conference, the Jacks are 1-0 in South...More >>
