Friday's Weather: After a very chilly start, plenty of sunshine will help temps warm into the mid 40s

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Good morning East Texas and TGIF! It's a very chilly start so we will call it Freezing Friday as all of East Texas is below the freezing mark this morning. In fact here in Tyler, we haven't been above 40 degrees since 6 p.m. Wednesday evening so definitely some very cold air across the region!

We'll see a lot more sunshine today allowing us to "warm" if you will, highs will be in the mid 40s. Two pieces of good news though: it will not be as windy, so it won't be feeling as cold, and that sunshine will help warm us up as well.

The potential for precipitation enters the forecast starting on Saturday and into Sunday as we are watching two disturbances. The first will arise as our winds shift back to the south, bringing a little moisture from the Gulf. This should be a cold rain event.

The second disturbance will cause the polar jet to dip a little further south, bringing more rain for Sunday, and heading into the evening time with temperatures dropping, we could see a light wintry mix heading into late on Sunday. Models are trying to trend away from the winter precip chances, and no accumulation is expected if we do get to see a few flurries.

High pressure returns on Monday bringing lots of sunshine. Highs will stay in the mid 40s with lows in the 20s but rebounding nicely towards the end of the week with some 60s back in the forecast.

Stay warm today East Texas!
