MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) - Autopsy results have revealed that a Marshall man found hanging outside of a hospital died of a suicide.

On Aug. 24, Marshall police responded to Good Shepherd Medical Center for a call concerning a deceased person. Officers found a man hanging by a belt from a limb outside of the hospital property, in the early stages of decomposition. A judge pronounced him dead, and ordered the body be sent to Forensic Medical of Tyler for an autopsy, where the cause of death was determined to be a suicide.

The man was identified as Eddie Charles Clark, 51, of Marshall. Clark's family doubted the autopsy results and requested a second, conducted by American Forensics of Dallas.

"I was shocked at the way he was supposed to have passed. I felt like that's not like Eddie. Suicidal? That wasn't his character. I don't believe it," says Clark's sister, Dorothy Black.

The second report, released to Marshall police on Oct. 28, confirmed the original autopsy, ruling the death as a suicide. According to police, both autopsy reports show that there was no evidence of trauma to the body nor was there evidence of bindings to the wrists or ankles.

"Marshall Criminal Investigation Bureau conducted interviews with individuals who were last known to be associated with Clark and reviewed hours of surveillance video from Good Shepherd Medical Center," said Chief Jesus "Eddie" Campa, adding, "In conclusion, there was no evidence leading investigators to believe that a criminal offense occurred leading to Clark's death."
