Truman W. Smith Center Donations Gathered And Delivered

Since the Truman W. Smith children's center caught fire Monday night, there has been an outpouring of giving by East Texans. The fire damaged many of the patient's personal items and even some Christmas gifts.

At KYKX in Longview, the donations filled the lobby and hallways. Budget rental in Longview donated a moving van that delivered the toys, blankets, clothes and even televisions to the Gladewater high school. That's where the staff is working while they wait for the facility to be re-opened.

The station also collected more than $16,000 for the hospital. The staff and volunteers were overwhelmed by the generosity of East Texans.

"You hear it's going to happen but your heart doesn't handle it until it gets here and the tears start. You realize that these people just did it because they know that kids need something," says volunteer Sky Hollcomb.

Staff members at Truman W. Smith say, thanks to the giving of East Texans, this will be the best Christmas for the facility.
