East Texas Gets An Early White Christmas

East Texans dreaming of a white Christmas got their wish a few days early. By mid-Wednesday afternoon the steady rain froze into a cascade of snowflakes.

"I was hoping for a little cold for the holidays. I'm enjoying it. I want a cold Christmas and a little snow," Eveline Gardner said.

In Mineola the holiday decorations downtown were sprinkled with nature's winter crystals.
"I expected lots of snow," said Michelle Williams, "my 4-year-old has been praying for two months for lots of snow."

Folks bundled up like Eskimos hurried about and those caught without a little extra padding headed for the heat.

"I hope it snows a lot to stick, " said Todd Williams.

Frank Beene drove in from Dallas. "It was rain, sleet and snow all mixed together and it was looking like it was trying to stick to the highways there," he said.

Luckily for motorists but not so lucky for snowman fans, the snow melted as soon as it hit the ground and turned to slush in most places.

Even if it was only for a little while, for a few hours east Texans were walking in a winter wonderland.

Residents in Tyler and Canton also saw a little snow today, but Meterologist Mark Scirto says don't get your hopes up.  The snow has made its only visit for the week.
