850 More Flu Shots Here

More flu shots have come to East Texas and they're going fast.

The Northeast Texas Public Health District has 850 doses left. The clinic started giving vaccines this morning, by appointment only.

You can get your flu shots Tuesday through Thursday morning this week and next. The clinic will be open from 9 to 11:30a.m.

The health district's director, Nic Sciarrini, says it's best to get your flu shot before all the holiday festivities begin: "We're trying to get all our immunizations done before the holiday travel begins because, if someone travels into an area that has influenza, they could bring it back. So the more people we have that are properly immunized now would be better for us."

The flu shots are $18, unless you have Medicare or Medicaid. To make an appointment, call the Northeast Texas Public Health District at 903-535-0028, at least a day in advance.

Right now, the health district is only immunizing senior citizens and other high-risk patients, but Sciarrini expects the restrictions to be relaxed after the New Year to include people over 50 and workers who come in contact with the public, like teachers and health/day care workers.
