A&M Commerce Tour Bus Accident

Some East Texas college student had a frightening experience this morning as their tour bus is hit by a fishtailing 18-wheeler.

It happened around 8 o'clock this morning on Highway 135 near Highway 271 just sough of Gladewater.

The bus carrying 40 students from A&M Commerce was traveling northbound on 135 when an oncoming 18-wheeler hit the bus on the driver's side, knocking it into a ditch.

Five people, including the bus driver suffered minor injuries and were transported to Tyler hospitals.

Accident investigators say the bus driver remained calm and guided the bus to a stop, probably keeping the bus from flipping over and saving lives.

Although weather was a factor in the accident, troopers say the driver of the 18-wheeler was ticketed for driving at unsafe speed, causing the accident.
