Kilgore, Gilmer, Troup All Bound For State Championships

The Kilgore Bulldogs are going to their first ever state championship game. The Ragin' Red defeated Pflugerville Connelly 10-7, after Connelly missed a last-minute 46 yard field goal. Quarterback Chase Fisher connected with Courtney Thomas for a sixty-yard touchdown strike to put Kilgore ahead to stay. The Bulldogs will play Dallas Lincoln next week for the 4A Division II State Championship.

Their district mates, the Marshall Mavericks fell in the 4A Division I State Championship to Ennis by the final score of 23-21.

The Gilmer Buckeyes are also going to state. The Buckeyes blew away the Snyder Tigers 53-20. Gilmer has now scored 113 points in the last two weeks of the playoffs. The Buckeyes will play the Jasper Bulldogs next Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium for the 3A Division II State Championship.

The Troup Tigers defeated the Lexington Eagles 42-13 Friday night at Waco ISD Stadium. The Tigers will advance to the Class 2A Division II State Championship next weekend against Crawford. That game will be played at Birdville Stadium Saturday night at 6:00pm.

Sophomore Chris Davis led the way with 166 yards on 26 carries, scoring three touchdowns in the first half. Jarrell Norman had 199 yards on 6 carries, and scored three touchdowns including a 92 yard kickoff return to start the second half. It is Troup's first trip to the state championship since 1973, when they defeated Vega to win the Class B State Championship.

The Big Sandy Wildcats took the number one team in the state down to the last minute, but Shiner scored a touchdown to come away with the win 21-17. The Wildcats end their season at 11-4.
