Gilmer Showing Off "Buckeye" Pride

Fans in Gilmer are getting ready for what some are calling the biggest game in the town's history.  The Gilmer Buckeyes are 14-0 this season and are playing to go to the school's first ever State Championship.

In Gilmer, fans can hardly contain their "Buckeye Pride".  If friday's pep rally was any indication... the Gilmer Buckeyes are ready for their big game.

"It's very exciting to see our whole community come together as one and just see the hype," said defensive tackle, Bernardo lbarra.

Everywhere you turn in Gilmer they've got Buckeye fever with t-shirts touting their team and buildings painted up with Buckeye pride, this is one town hoping to push their team to a State Title.

Just off the square at "Special Tees", they've been working around the clock, filling orders for the orange and black.  Owner Becky Burns said it's all they can do to keep up.

"Every week people are more excited you're seeing signs and more people are coming into the store to have orange and black."

Many in this community are lifelong Buckeye fans.  They say the support this year, has been tremendous.

"You know our community only has about 5,000 people and we have about 7,500 to 10,000 travel to the game," said Matt Camp.  "It's just a craze... the fans around here just go completely nuts and it's just because of the kids."

In a town that always supports the red, white and blue... these days it's all about the orange and black... at least for another week.

Gilmer last played in a State Semifinal game back in 1981.  They lost that game to Cameron Yoe.

The Buckeyes take on "Snyder", Saturday at Texas Stadium.  Kick-off is set for 7:30.
