Post Office Waiting Cut By Technology

Don't want to wait in a long line this holiday to mail your Christmas packages? You might not have to this year because of a new machine called an Automated Postal Center, or APC. This self-service kiosk takes the place of a person, as long as you pay by debit or credit card.

Customers choose how to send their mail using a touch screen and numeric key-pad. The Kiosk then weighs the mail and prints the receipt and mailing label. Postal workers say it saves time and a headache for everyone.

"They can come in here and use it 24/7, that's one of the best things about it. It's easy to deposit your mail in the box and you can purchase stamps. This machine does about 80 percent of what's done inside our retail window," says Fred Arrambidez, Postmaster of Tyler.

You can find the new centers in Tyler, at the Post Office on South Broadway and Troup Highway.
