Marshall Mavericks Vie For State Title

An amazing two year turn around has the Marshall Mavericks playing for a state football title. The signs around town say it all, Maverick Fever has caught on in Marshall.
"It's exciting around the school and around the town especially to see signs up and everybody waving us off to the game" says senior guard John Shell.
They play Ennis Saturday for the 4-A division 1 crown, and school spirit has never been higher. Two seasons ago the Mavericks finished a dismal 1-and-9, but winning has made them the talk of the town.
They're not real big, not that fast, no real superstars,  but coaches say what they have is belief in themselves.
"Our defense is too small everybody says that course they'll stand you up and knock the fire out of you because you're going to get hit by five guys" says Marshall high principal Bill Spivey.
For many players, it's the culmination of 4 years of hard work.  "Some of us have been playing together five years trying to get to this point, it just feels great everythings coming together for on season" says senior tackle Jarrod Shepperd.
The Principal put his money where his mouth was, with a very unusual challenge. When the team made the playoffs Principal Spivey shaved his head. Since the team made the state final, he now sleeps in a pink nighty.... again, that's part of the challenge.
