Al Qaeda Says It Carried Out Attack In Saudi Arabia

Al-Qaeda is claiming responsibility for a deadly attack on the U-S Consulate in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia.

Nine people died in the attack, though none was American.

The group Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula took responsibility in a statement posted on a militant Web site, but the claim cannot be confirmed. The group says Monday's attack was part of its "war on the crusaders and the Jews" and aimed at getting them out of the Arabian peninsula.

The group also says the attack was carried out by a group loyal to the spiritual adviser to terror suspect Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

The Jiddah consulate, as well as the U-S Embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Dhahran, are closed to the public. The Embassy also is urging the thousands of Americans in Saudi Arabia to "exercise utmost security precautions."
