Longview Rescue Mission Winter Preps

The holidays and winter bring need like no other time, and the Highway 80 Rescue Mission is gearing up for what they think will be their busiest time ever.

"We expect in the month of December alone, to serve about 5-thousand meals, we're seeing more people coming in we're averaging sleeping about 9-to-10 men a night because our dorm is full, more people are coming in from outside," says mission director Tony Chung.

Thanksgiving was an indicator for the mission, they served over 25-hundred meals in 2 days, and began to run out of essential foods, with Christmas and cold weather still on the way. Some who live at the mission say it's the only help some people get, who may have to decide whether to buy food of pay bills this winter.

"If it wasn't for the mission the guests that we have here would not have anything, I've seen it for myself , I've been here for 6 months," says mission resident Mike Renaud.

The shelter is in desperate need of winter clothing for those who need, and more food to let them help feed people through the winter. Anyone interested in donating is asked to call the Highway 80 rescue mission.
