TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A motorcycle rally this weekend is all about supporting veterans, and those who gave their life serving their country.
The 271 Biker Rally is a weekend event with proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors of Texas, which helps injured soldiers returning from combat. The event will feature live music, a motorcycle show and a veterans wall. The 190-foot wall features the names of fallen soldiers from the Korean War through the present day.
Robert Eckeberger, the event's organizer, said he expects 2,000 people will pass through the gates this weekend. Eckeberger added that while there is a fee to listen to music and walk the grounds, visiting the veterans wall is free.
"With it being the 9/11 weekend, it means a lot that we were able to come out and pay tribute," Eckeberger said.
Eckeberger said more than 30 volunteers helped set up the event. One of those volunteers, John Bradberry, said that while the event is about having fun, there is a message people can take away.
"We hope that through the enjoyment people are going to get this weekend, that they still hold in their mind that is to honor our veterans," Bradberry said.
The rally runs from Friday through Sunday on Highway 271 in Tyler just south of Interstate 20.
